Psychonutrigenomics is a new field of study in functional medicine developed and evolved by Dr. Oscar Coetzee. Dr. Coetzee has worked with professional golfers for decades on the mental side, focusing on specific personality traits, and developing his own personality assessment questionnaire to assess these criteria. Dr. Coetzee played junior and amateur golf with Ernie Els and Retief Goosen in his native South Africa. He played collegiate golf at the University of Pretoria in South Africa and had various victories as an amateur and junior.

Dr. Coetzee continued his education in the USA, finishing graduate degrees in psychology, human nutrition, holistic nutrition, and clinical nutrition. His doctoral work focused on functional nutritional medicine with specializations in nutritional genomics and metabolics. He started his professional career at Fair Oaks Hospital working for the Psychiatric Institutes of America in clinical co-dependency counseling and suicide intervention. From there he evolved into sports psychology, organizational psychology, and now the nutritional/psychological overlap. Dr. Coetzee is currently the clinical director of Natural Healthcare Center, working in areas of metabolic-related disease, behavioral disorders, and gastrointestinal dysbiosis.

He is a ranked faculty member at the Georgetown University Medical School, University of Bridgeport, and Maryland University of Integrative Health.
